In the Webster dictionary, one of the definitions of DESIGN is: to conceive and plan out in the mind. But how much longer will it be the fashion designers job?

Social media has made it a lot easier for everyone to express their individual style. My prediction is that in the future fashion will be much more personalized and catered to each persons tastes and preferences. And consumers will become more and more involved in the design process. There will be no more seasons. Trends will slowly fade away. Designs will be released more frequently in a already constantly evolving industry.
There will come a time when consumers will be able to design their own clothes at home and pay to have them made. You will own a one of a kind design that no one else has. Who else knows what you like more than yourself. Technology will definitely play a larger role over time. Shopping will be more digital. Stores will be mobile.

Fashion will definitely be more cutting edge. Technology will be directly infused. But at the same time be all about comfort and convenience. And much more wearable. Like fitness trackers being installed into clothing or sneakers. Or ear buds in hoodies.

Before the turn of the century, we all envisioned that we would all be hovering around in spacecraft and or clothes would be more "Jetson" like. This show was and still is our most popular point of reference when discussing the future. And who knows, maybe there will still come a time where robots are a part of the mainstream population and we have moving sidewalks ,jetpacks and flying cars.

Brands are already experimenting with what the digital world has to offer. And with online shopping becoming more and more increasingly popular, the internet will play a larger role in giving the consumer what they want when they want it.
The makeup industry is making great strides in the virtual world. Where consumers are able to try on makeup just by uploading a picture to their phone or computer, Or find their perfect shade of foundation just by downloading an app. And, I believe fashion design will soon follow in their foot steps. Where consumers will be able to try on clothes from the comfort of their home and order it from their phone or computer. All without leaving their house.
Shopping and fashion shows will be done with holograms. Or simply through looking through 3d glasses. Checkout will be voice recognized. Which would also help to conquer one of fashions biggest challenges. Supply and demand. Less clothes going into discount. Less fabric wasted. And more profit.
Oh what a wonderful world would it be? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
